Titanic Ocean

Titanic Ocean

“Titanic Ocean,” an international co-production between Greece, France, Germany, Spain, Romania, and Japan, and the feature-length directorial debut of Greek filmmaker Konstantina Kotzamani, has been selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

Kotzamani is a highly anticipated Greek visual artist whose short and medium-length works have previously been screened at Cannes, Venice, and Berlin — the world’s three major film festivals — earning her international attention.

Set at a Japanese boarding school that trains mermaids who perform in shows held inside a giant aquarium, the film is a fantastical story that delicately portrays the wavering emotions of teenagers who have left their families behind to pursue their dreams of becoming professionals. Inspired by the Sirens of Greek mythology, the story follows the students as they live together in the dormitory, undergo rigorous training to continue performing gracefully underwater for long periods of time, and encourage one another while imagining their future selves in the world of show business.
